Workshop - Using Quotations in the Classroom

Nov 15, 2019 - 01:00 pm

Using Quotation in the Classroom:  Increase Complexity, Develop Critical Thinking Skills, and Provide a Platform

This interactive presentation will demonstrate collaborative classroom activities that use content-rich quotations to promote text complexity and academic language. A brief review of previous research on building academic language, reading skills, and collaborative writing will provide the foundation for the differentiated activities that follow. ELLs at all levels benefit from engaging with texts that allow them to reflect, share opinions, negotiate for meaning, focus on evidence, and compare/contrast to other texts. Using quotations as a presentation platform strengthens their ability to integrate these skills. Instructors will leave with resources and ideas for lesson plans that they can put into practice immediately as well as linked technical integration to develop digital literacy.
