The US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is supporting newly arrived Afghan refugees located in the Bethesda area by providing morale, wellness and recreational (MWR) activities as well as English conversation, cultural orientation and legal assistance. USCCB is looking for volunteers with ESL experience who can consistently provide at least one morning (9:30-12:30) or afternoon (1:00-4:30) per week through the end of December 2021. The programs operate seven days per week and may continue until approximately March 2022.
Qualifications:
• Cultural sensitivity and passion for teaching newly arrived refugees
• Experience teaching English, ideally in multicultural settings
• Certification or training in TESOL/ESL preferred but not required
• Flexibility and enthusiasm
Duties will include:
- Prepare and teach engaging English lessons to adult learners
- Create a respectful, supportive, and encouraging environment for all students
A background check is required.
All volunteers must be fully vaccinated. Masks are worn throughout the facility. All adult Afghan guests are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Lunch is provided on site, and we provide parking validation.
