ESL Volunteer Teachers needed in Rockville

Position Title: English as a Second Language (ESL) Volunteer Teacher
Position Level (s): Beginners, Intermediate, or Advanced Level
Location: First Baptist Church of Rockville, 55 Adclare Drive, Rockville, MD 20850
Commitment: 2 hours max/ week for 34 weeks
Start Date: September 7, 2025 until May 17, 2026

About Us
First Baptist Church of Rockville is a Church of the Nations, for the Nations.  Our purpose is to show Jesus’ love and care by helping individuals with the practical need of learning English as a Second Language.  Adult English as a Second Language Classes provide an opportunity for people in our community to come to our church to learn English.  There are various levels of instruction depending on the student’s proficiency in English.  Our ESL program provides adult learns with the language skills they need to thrive in work, school, and everyday life.
Role Summary
We’re seeking passionate and patient volunteers to teach English to adult learners from diverse backgrounds.  Whether you’re a seasoned educator or someone who has a minimum of 2 years of teaching in a classroom type atmosphere, this is a chance to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities

• Lead weekly ESL classes by creating your own lesson plans from provided curriculum books
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
• Adapt instruction to meet learners’ varying skill levels
• Track attendance and student progress
• Collaborate with program staff and fellow volunteers

Qualifications

• Fluent in English
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to equity
• Prior teaching experiences or ESL certification is helpful
• Must be 18+ and willing to complete a background check
