ESOL Instructor needed for English for Childcare Class

MCAEL is seeking an ESOL instructor to teach an 8-week class for childcare providers in a program sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the Latino Childcare Association of Maryland. The class will be offered on Zoom and meet twice a week for 1.5 hours each on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  The second of two 8-week sessions that began in January 2025, this class is scheduled to begin the week of March 24.  The class uses the online curriculum Burlington English, and focuses both on general and childcare-specific English.  

Qualifications:

  • A passion for teaching, and an ability to engage, inspire, and teach adult learners from multicultural backgrounds
  • TESOL certificate, or a post-secondary degree in adult education, linguistics, or related field and one year of experience teaching English to adults (English language learners) OR
  • A minimum of two to three years of experience teaching English to adults (English language learners)
  • Skilled at using Zoom for instruction and additional tools for online engagement and collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience using digital curricula

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingual in Spanish

Compensation: $35 per instructional hour, plus a stipend for prep-time and administrative work.  This is a contract position with no benefits offered.
