Job Title: Part-Time, Daytime ESOL Mixed Level Class Instructor
Tuesday and Friday 10am - 12 noon
Contract Length: 10 Weeks Trimester April 9-June 12, 2024
Reports to: EAABF ESOL/Computer Program Manager

Position Summary: We are currently seeking experienced ESOL Teachers who are skilled in both hybrid and online formats to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to teach English to adult Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for a ten-week program. Our ESOL program is designed for adults who are 18 years old and above and is a two-hour class held on Tuesday and Fridays mornings. The next trimester runs April 9 through June 12, 2024 (Spring). Teachers are contracted for a trimester and most continue through all three trimesters (Fall, Winter & Spring). Classes are taught in person with a combination of Zoom and in-person classroom students.
Daytime classes include students from multiple levels. This is different from our evening classes which are divided into 5 specific levels. Daytime teachers must be flexible and able to move between needs of students.
Qualifications:

  • English speaking with some studies and/or experience in ESOL Adult Education
  • Preferred candidates will have bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited College.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish applicants preferred.
  • Teachers must be willing to collaborate with others and show patience and care in working with new immigrant communities. 
  • Sitting/Standing required
  • Teachers must be computer literate and comfortable being onscreen for online learners
  • Teachers must be willing to learn new hybrid teaching skills and willing to use Ventures Curriculum.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have proven knowledge of and experience with ESOL curriculum and instructional strategies;
  • Must have the ability to understand the student's individual goals and develop their long-term education goals.

The English teacher will:

  • Prepare lesson plans for his/her class based on the values and interests of the learners;  
  • Follow up on students’ progress and report at the end of the semester; 
  • Help students to track the objectives they set for themselves when registered; 
  • Keep track of students’ progress in fulfilling their objectives and report at the end of ten-week classes;
  • Accurately record attendance, planned and unplanned absences through November 22; 
  • Follow up with students who are absent and report to the Program Director as needed; 
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and workshops;
  • Make sure that room is left as it was found; 
  • Report to Program Director needs and or problems as they arise; 
  • Come at least 10 minutes before class starts to make sure that the classroom is ready when students arrive; 
  • Ensure that the classroom is left in good condition and ready to be used by the next users; 
  • When classes are through ZOOM, make sure that invitations are sent to all students for their weekly access to the class;
  • Being passionate about teaching English to adult learners is a must.

Teachers are paid $20 per hour of class.
