Adult learners come to ESOL classes with a wide range of education, workforce skills, employment experience and English language skills. Many are also looking for work or will be in need of job search skills in the near future. This interactive session is for adult ESOL instructors at all levels of expertise who would like to help their learners gain skills for seeking employment in the classroom. Drawing from the new MCAEL publication “Job Search Skills for the English Language Learner: An ESOL Instructor Toolkit”, this presentation will focus on practical resources and strategies for helping adult English language learners build the skills they need to search, apply, and interview for jobs.
Anna DeNicolo, the author of MCAEL’s newly updated “Job Search Skills for the English Language Learner: An ESOL Instructor Toolkit”, will review the skills adult learners need for job searching, share specific strategies and activities that can be used in the classroom immediately, and provide examples of how these skill-building activities can be integrated into a standard ESOL textbook curriculum.
Ruth Seidenspinner, Assistant Director of Training & Student Support at Classroom 2 Community (C2C), will discuss ways in which these strategies and activities have been incorporated into some of C2C’s adult ESOL classes.
This Toolkit is available free-of-charge on MCAEL’s website: https://www.mcael.org/job-search-skills-toolkit.
