In this session we will focus on a never-ending challenge in adult education: retaining our students. Students certainly face barriers to retention that are outside our control, so this session will address issues teachers CAN influence. From the moment teachers receive their class rosters, they can begin applying strategies to retain their students. This session will provide a foundation in recent research on adult education persistence, introduce practical strategies to improve retention rates, and prompt teachers to consider their own classroom retention data.

Participants will share in small groups and via the chat about common barriers to retention, effective retention ideas they currently use, and brainstormed lists of new retention strategies they'd like to try. Finally, teachers will end by developing an action plan to implement at least 2 retention strategies in the upcoming term.
